sited along the Tuscan seaside and it is 4 km distant from the beaches of Viareggio, 18 km from Luca and Pisa indeed. The most appreciated of the 20th century is Puccini, the great artist who has created extraordinary compositions for the lyrical opera; thanks to these marvellous creations, nowadays, the audience can be part of memorable moments at the Festival in Torre del Lago. More than 70 years of history, the Festival of Puccini is one of the most unique events in Italy, where many famous artists have emphasised emotions to the audience and honoured the grand master. The Puccini Festival was started in 1930, thanks to Puccini’s own initiative, who’s desire was to find his universe in a quiet and picturesque place, where he could be able to bloom again his creative genius. In fact, at the end of the ‘800 he decided to enjoy the magnificent scenery of the Torre del Lago, from where he continued to develop his creations, nowadays famous all around the globe: the “Bohème” and the “Madam Butterfly”.

Production of the Centenari “Scolpire l’Opera” Friday 16th July, Friday 23rd July, Saturday 7th August La Fanciulla del West (The Girl of the Golden West) is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Guelfo Civinini and Carlo Zangarini, based on the play The Girl of the Golden West by David Belasco. MADAMA BUTTERFLY Saturday 17th July, Sunday 1st August, Saturday 14th August, Sunday 22nd August Madama Butterfly (Madame Butterfly) is an opera in three acts (originally two acts) by Giacomo Puccini, with an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. TURANDOT Saturday 31st July, Friday 6th August, Thursday 12th August, Friday 20th August Turandot is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini, set to a libretto in Italian by Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simoni. TOSCA Saturday 24th July, Friday 30th July, Sunday 8th August, Friday 13th August, Saturday 21st August Tosca is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa, based on Victorien Sardou’s drama, La Tosca. ROMEO E GIULIETTA Wednesday 11th August Romeo and Juliet is a ballet by Sergei Prokofiev based on William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. Music from the ballet was extracted by Prokofiev as three suites for orchestra and as a piano work. |
